Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany an exhibition (consisting of a sculpture, drawings, text and a film) that followed Huws’ residency at the Oakville Galleries. Salzman’s curatorial text explains how the artist’s origins shape her works, which are based in language, culture and place. Other subjects discussed include: Huws’ process; issues of craft, tactility and corporeality; actual versus virtual space/time; colour versus monochrome drawings; and the sculptural quality of the artist’s drawings. Reust’s essay provides an in-depth analysis of Huws’ text-based piece “Origin and Source” (1997). Brief biographical notes. 11 bibl. ref.
