Abstract (English)

Catalogue for an exhibition of abstract paintings and prints produced by Canadian artist and poet Coupey between 1994 and 1998. Curator Gustafson’s essay describes the genesis of this recent work, a personal form of “ars poetica,” in which art and writing interact. The author retraces the artist’s development from the 1960s (when he published his first poems) to the 1990s (including his term as editor of the “Capilano Review”). Preface by poet D. McNaughton in English, French and Japanese; curator’s essay in English and Japanese. Brief biographical notes on curator and prefacer. Bio-bibliography 2 p.
