Abstract (English)

In his descriptive analysis of works by nine artists, Porter attempts to define how new media engage the “virtual” in ways that are different from traditional art making. He calls attention to how the use of new media in art privileges “presencing” over representation and transforms the technology’s “remote presencing” into the “immediate virtual.” Includes artists’ statements.
