Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany an exhibition of works by eight contemporary artists of Jewish descent. Danto's philosophically informed text focuses on differences between art based on universal values (disinterestedness) and art concerned with the concrete self within pluralistic societies (interestedness). Goodman provides detailed descriptions of each artist's work, and outlines the various ways in which issues pertaining to Jewish identity are addressed. Includes list of contemporary art exhibitions presented at the Jewish Museum, list of works and biographical notes. 188 bibl. ref.
