MindToysTools Craig, David; Sourkes, Cheryl. MindToys. Windsor, Ont.: Art Gallery of Windsor, 2001.
Abstract (English)The curators argue that the artists in this exhibition use toys to bridge the regions of the unconscious and the manufactured. Sourkes claims that the toys are re-deployed to suggest darker realities than simple nostalgia for childhood. Craig discusses each artist’s work, underscoring how seemingly innocuous toys conflate powerful forces of the media, consumerism and technology. Includes a set of five pictures to be affixed in the catalogue by the reader. List of works. Biographical notes.
