Abstract (English)

The curators argue that the artists in this exhibition use toys to bridge the regions of the unconscious and the manufactured. Sourkes claims that the toys are re-deployed to suggest darker realities than simple nostalgia for childhood. Craig discusses each artist’s work, underscoring how seemingly innocuous toys conflate powerful forces of the media, consumerism and technology. Includes a set of five pictures to be affixed in the catalogue by the reader. List of works. Biographical notes.
