Abstract (English)

For S. Garvey, this exhibition of eight contemporary abstractionists is a welcome addition to Nova Scotia’s insubstantial history of Modernist painting. Tap argues that the artists’ work playfully affirms the possibilities of painting beyond the notion of its endgame. After sketching a history of abstraction, she claims that painting stays vital in an hyper-visual culture by retaining “impurities” from the world and by using a 21st century palette. Bibl. 1 p.
