Abstract (English)

Ewen's paintings of the Montréal period illustrate his constant exploration of formal means, using patterns of imagery and space derived from landscape. The text describes the influences of the activities of the "Automatistes" and "Plasticiens" on his work. Emphasis is placed on reconstructing a chronology of his production, interests and influences from the 1950's and 1960's, including the artist's comments. 48 bibl. ref.
