Abstract (English)

Interview with artist Leopold Plotek, discussing his early career after his studies at McGill University and in London, as well as his first studio and how his economic situation at the time impacted his choice of mediums to work with. The influence of artist Roy Kiyooka, his creative process, his feelings at the time of finishing a painting, his first emotions in contact with the work of certain artists and his inspirations are also among the discussed subjects. The conversation continues on to his relationship with the Quebec art community through his position as a professor at Concordia University - the financial stability it offers him and the freedom to create that comes with it - the galleries and the group exhibitions. Plotek then speaks of his pictorial style, the freedom to create and conveys his impressions on the state of art in Quebec.

Entrevue avec l’artiste Leopold Plotek, sur son début de carrière après ses études à l’Université McGill et à Londres, son premier studio et l’impact de sa situation économique à l’époque sur le choix de ses matériaux. L’influence de l’artiste Roy Kiyooka, son processus créatif, ses sentiments au moment de finir une toile, ses premiers émois au contact de l’œuvre de certains artistes et ses inspirations figurent également parmi les sujets abordés. La conversation se poursuit sur sa relation avec le milieu de l’art québécois à travers son poste de professeur à l’Université Concordia – la stabilité financière que cela lui offre et la liberté de créer qui vient avec – les galeries et les expositions de groupe. Plotek parle ensuite de son style pictural, de la liberté de créer, et transmet ses impressions sur l’état de l’art au Québec.
