Abstract (English)

'' Abbas Akhavan and Marina Roy share an interest in domesticated landscapes, where natural and constructed worlds collide. Here, they locate the library and gallery as public sites for leisure, contemplation, observation, and play. They transform the gallery into a host of hybrid spaces: a sculptural installation developed together onsite; walls of hedges configured as an indoor landscape and threshold between spaces; and a projection of Roy’s hour-long cel and collage animation, Apartment, set in a fictional apartment complex which slowly decays while being taken over by various lifeforms.
By using commonplace materials and creating familiar (yet strange) domestic images, Neighbours also alludes to the home, a private site of hospitality and hostility, secrets, and discovery.'' --
