Published on the occasion of the seventh Mois de la Photo à Montréal (2001), this catalogue presents texts by 25 writers who address a wide range of issues from diverse perspectives (aesthetic, ideological, theoretical, sociological, etc.). Topics discussed include: the power of the gaze, globalization, alterity, genre and landscape. Includes a special feature on Scandinavian photography, film and video. Interviews with artists B. Catalogue de la 7e édition de l’événement montréalais, qui interroge l’image et ses pouvoirs sur l’humain (notamment ceux du regard, de l’image télévisuelle et de la réflexion) selon un point de vue esthétique, social et théorique. Vingt-cinq auteurs abordent une vingtaine de sujets, allant de commentaires et analyses de l’œuvre d’artistes photographes (tels que Susan Meiselas, Shirin Neshat, Mark Lewis) aux libres essais autour de sujets tels que l’altérité, le genre, le paysage, la révolution, l’espace occulte, les rituels masculins et les habitudes de vision. On réserve un traitement particulier aux pratiques photographiques, filmiques et vidéographiques dans les pays scandinaves.
