"This superb visual and written record of twentieth-century art in British Columbia presents- in full colour- 100 outstanding works by British Columbia's foremost artists. Here is the long overdue history of the visual arts in Brisish Columbia, one that also properly integrates out great heritage of First Nations art into the mainstream. In the introduction, Ian Thom outlines the art history of the proince over the past century. He also writes clearly and thoughtfully about each work individually, setting it in context to reflect the times in which is was made, describing the artist's achievements, and placing the artist and the work into the art history of British Columbia.
