Abstract (English)

McMaster's collection encompasses 3000 works by approximately 500 European artists, 370 Canadians and 20 Americans, dating from an ancient Egyptian statuette to contemporary pieces. A major component of the collection is its extensive representation of 20th century German graphic art and Inuit sculptures and prints. Detailed documentation is introduced by Ness's essay and many artists are described with precise historical notes. Bibl. 3 p.
