Abstract (English)

This anthology comprises six essays on the theme of reference and simulation in painting and sculpture for an exhibition of 12 American and Canadian painters, sculptors, and performance artists. While Crow traces how the satire of the 1970s has become the art of the 1980s, Bois writes on mourning as a dominant subject of 20th century painting. Sussman meditates on the death and rebirth of abstraction in painting. 77 bibl. ref.
